Directly opposite the market cross, you'll be instantly treated to a warm and friendly atmosphere inside, with perfect views of the goings-on in the historic Cartmel square. As an adults-only B&B, you can enjoy a relaxing stay no matter the season.
The property has been carefully and tastefully restored for the enjoyment of our guests.
Whilst retaining the character and the important original features, we have incorporated modern conveniences to make your stay more comfortable. During a recent refurbishment, we’ve discovered some intriguing historical finds from Cartmel’s past which we have kept uncovered for all to enjoy.
Whether you’re enjoying a freshly brewed coffee downstairs, or relaxing in one of our boutique rooms, you will have the same views across the historic square. Our property is directly opposite the original market cross, installed over 700 years ago when Cartmel was declared a market village.
We are just ten metres from the old priory gates, which still survive from the reign of King Henry VII. We also adjoin the old gatehouse, which was previously a grammar school, held ancient courts, and was more recently renovated by Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume restaurant.
